Firstly, we have finally managed to put on some photos and hope to get more on ASAP!!
We are in KL (Kuala Lumpur for all you non travellers) at the minute after having travelled into Malaysia from Thailand. We left Krabi on Sunday 14th Sep at 7:30 am...yes...7:30 am in the MORNING!!! We travelled 4 1/2 hours to the Thai/Malay border in small minivans (we squeezed in a bit more fried rice along the way). After slowly making our way through the passport check, we had another 3 hours ahead of us till we reached our destination of Penang. Penang is an island off the mainland once owned by the British....zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. We arrived at 6pm outside the Hong Ping hotel where we were staying. We had dinner at a local food court (where there was a beer festival ongoing ) and then a small beer in Soho (bar).
The next day we had a lie on and around lunch we went on a tour of the island. We saw Fort Cornwallis (british fort from 1700's), Chinese stilt houses, and the third largest temple in Asia (where we wore a snake around our necks...scary biscuits). We went to Little India that evening and had the best meal to date (I-Brian had two it was so sweet!!).
We left Penang at 7am and got a public cockroach infested bus (I joke you not) to the Cameron Highlands where we arrived at 3pm. We had Indian again for Lunch, strolled around town and finished the day off with drinks in 'Travellers'. The next day we did a short tour of the area which took in a massive tea plantation where we saw the factory and sampled the produce. We also visited an insect farm...not for those who are slightly scared of bugs. There were MASSIVE spiders, millipedes, grasshoppers and much more...yuk!!!! We finished off the tour with a visit to a strawberry farm. A highly enjoyable day.
Only one night in the Cameron highlands, we left after the tour and got a much nicer bus to KL. It is a mad city with bustling markets much like you would imagine in Asia. Yesterday we had a quick wash and then a Chinese washed down by a few Tiger beers. We headed home around 2 so we could watch the Arsenal Champions League game but the zzzzzzzzz's were too strong for us!
Today we left the hotel at 7:30am an went to the Petronas Towers to make sure we got tickets. They were pretty impressive...the skybridge has amazing views of the city. We went back tonight and got some quality shots of the towers all lit up....I'm sure you will be impressed when we post them.
Tomorrow we are on the move again, this time to Malaka where we stay in a Muslim guest house...no bacon butties tomorrow then!!!
Our time in Asia is coming to an end and we are looking forward to Oz (well Laura isn't looking forward to the skydive!!!). We will catch up with y'all in Singapore.
Miss you all,
Brian and Laura
