Well have travellaed again, through another border to Vietnam. Again you see the difference straight away. Everybody wears those little triangle straw hats and scurry about the streets carrying various foods in baskets.
We went straight to the capital, Saigon, which is also known as H Chi Minh City. We found a hostel that included breakfast AND evening dinner (noodles) so we stayed there.
We booked a tour for the first day which included an English guide. The coach was full, 35 people, English, German, Dutch. We went to the Mekong river and had a boat ride. We also had a rowing boat ride up a mini stream. They took us to a honey farm to see all the bee's and we drank honey tea. We also went to a coconut sweet factory and saw how they melt it all down and package it. That was a more modern trip but day 2 we did a history trip which included a War Museum. The main bit was an underground city of tunnels that they used during the American war. The tunnels run for 46km!!! and all the entrances were hidden so they could remain safe. It was interesting.
We have moved on now. We are in Dalat which was taken over by the French. Its full of Bistros and all the local Vietnamese wear Berets! It's a strainge french town plonked in thew middle of Asia! They grow their own garlic and grapes for wine. All the buildings are on mountains and made of wood. It does look just like France.
Off to Hoi An next. Nice back packer place apparently. Everywhere is well catered for UK tourists. Internet everywhere, 1000's hostels and tour companies in evey street. It's very cheap to. The all day bus trips are about 8pounds, the food 1pound and hostels from 5 pound a night.
