Hi Everybody! Our hotel wasn't too bad. Directly across the street from Penn Station. The tour bus picked us up about noon and wisked us to the port. The drive wasn't bad, but it was pretty cold. The view of the ship from about 2 miles away was spectacular. Then we were unloaded and had to wait to have our luggage re-tagged. Checked-in and headed onto the ship.
We made our way to the room where our keys were taped to the door. Upon entering the room, we both were in awe. Out stateroom was gorgeous. We headed over to open the door to the balcony, just to check it out of course, way too cold to sit out there.
We talked to Keith (our stateroom attendant) a few minutes before the life boat drill. We were quite exhausted from the wait to have the luggage re-tagged, walking to our stateroom and then the long stand at our fire assembly station.
After that ordeal, it was time to eat. We hadn't had breakfast and I was quite hungry. The Windjammer was acked with folks, scurring around to eat. There are huge food stations, some specializing in foreign cusine. There are so many foods to choose from.
We didn't make our scheduled 5:30 P.M. dinner time, with our group, as we were totally full. Hope wanted to explore the ship, but I was already ready to retire for the evening. I hadn't been on a cruise since 2006 and was looking to really relax on this trip.
Around 7 P.M. I was getting a bit antsy, because I'd only received one of my suitcases. I asked Keith and he said he'd check into it. He came back to tell me that he was told that they were still unloading luggage and that I should have it around 8 P.M. Well, 8 P.M. became 8:45 and I called the front desk. The woman at Guest Services asked me, "is it outside your door?" I told her, I'd just looked out and no. So I guess that wasn't good enough or she just wanted to make sure the cameras were working and said, "please hold, I will take a look." Okay, no luggage, so then she tells me that there's luggage at Guest Services with missing tags. She could have told me that first, but I headed down, saw my luggage, tossed the other stuff from on top of it and headed back to my room. Actually dared someone to question me.
On the elevator, I met a luggage inspector. He's asking me questions about my luggage. Admiring it and asking if I flew with it. I say yes and he goes, "OOOOooooo, they let you fly with that, eh?" I felt obligated to tell him, it was within weight regulations. His floor came up and I was glad. Leave me alone as I seriously need a shower.
I was able to get myself together and Hope and I headed out to check out the ship. This thing is huge. We headed over to the Two70 Theatre and caught the end of the Hot Spices show. These guys were pretty good. Hope and I just cringed at the little girls running up and down the rows. No shoes, running all over the stage and everywhere.
We sat there awhile, watching some dancers warm-up. We thought they were in an upcoming show, but we headed out. We headed up to Sorrento's Pizzeria for some pizza. The pizza is not as good as the pizza on the last ship I was on, but it was okay. The ship's coffee is outta sight.
